Yes, those are the first words in Pharell's famous song, Happy. They seemed appropriate considering what I am about to tell you. Did you know that cashews can actually make you happy?
No, I'm not talking about the amazing taste and satifying crunch of these delicious little morsels of delight when they hit your mouth. Of course that will make you happy, and also keep you reaching for another handful.
What I'm talking about is the wonderful health benefits of this tree nut. The nutrients in cashews include high levels of the essential minerals iron, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, copper, manganese and tryptophan along with 5 grams of protein per ounce.
But it's the tryptophan that contributes to the feeling of happiness. Tryptophan turns into serotonin, which some call the Happy Hormone, although it's actually a neurotransmitter.
According to Dr. Andrew Saul, a therapeutic nutritionist and editor-in-chief of Orthomolecular Medicine News Service, "Several handfuls of cashews provide 1,000 to 2,000 milligrams of tryptophan, which will work as well as prescription antidepressants".
This is great news for some that would rather not take prescription medication. So if an apple a day will keep the doctor away, then it seems a handful of cashews a day will keep you in a good mood. That sounds equally important to me!
Barefood'n Happy's Incredibly Delicious Cashew Cheeze is made from raw cashews and just the mere taste of it will make you smile. So eat some cashew cheeze and get happy!
